4 Ways to keep your skin healthy this summer

Summer means more outdoor activities and more time spent soaking up the sunshine. Sounds ideal, doesn’t it? But while you may be having a glorious time, your skin isn’t. The sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays are not only linked to DNA damage and cancer but can increase signs of ageing such as lines, wrinkles and pigmentation. Here are four ways to protect your skin and keep it healthy without compromising on your summer fun.

1. Wear SPF

This is the ultimate skincare rule. It's crucial to wear an SPF of at least 30 on your face every day, even if it isn’t sunny, as UV rays penetrate through clouds and windows. Moisturisers and makeup with SPF in are not strong enough; it has to be a dedicated SPF product. Wearing sunscreen every day will not only stop your skin from burning but prevent pigmentation (those pesky dark spots) and wrinkles from forming over time.

2. Take supplements

Taking supplements is a convenient way to support your skin health during summer. Taking liquid collagen, like Kollo marine collagen, can help improve your skin’s brightness, elasticity and hydration. Kollo also contains other vital vitamins such as vitamin C and vitamins B1, B5, B6 and B12 which help the skin, brain and metabolism to better function. Another supplement which can help your skin is omega 3. Found in oily fish, omega 3 can improve skin barrier function, meaning more hydration and less irritation.

3. Avoid sunbathing

It’s not enough to wear SPF - staying out of the sun is crucial in preventing UV damage. Sit in the shade where possible and wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect the skin on your scalp and stop sunlight reaching your face. Desperate for a tan? Apply a fake tan instead for the bronzed look without the health risks.

4. Antioxidants
